FLORIDA MINIMUM WAGE WILL INCREASE TO $15.00 AN HOUR EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 30TH

On September 30, 2026, the Florida minimum wage will increase to $15 an hour. The hourly wage paid to tipped employees is also going up. Starting September 30th tipped employees must be paid a wage of at least $11.98 an hour, not including tips. The cash wage of $11.98 an hour paid to a tipped employee is in addition to tips the employee receives from customers.

A tipped employee’s wage of $11.98 an hour plus tips received from customers during their shift must add up to at least the state minimum wage of $15. If not, the employer must make up the difference.

Since 2020, the Florida minimum wage has automatically increased by $1 every September 30th. Starting in 2027, the minimum wage will stop going up in $1 increments each year and will instead be adjusted annually for inflation.

DID YOUR BUSINESS FILE A BOI REPORT? GOOD NEWS: THE GOVERNMENT IS DELETING THIS DATA

If your business was one of the millions that filed a Beneficial Ownership Information report (BOI) back in late 2024 or early 2025, there is good news: The US government has agreed to destroy all BOI reports that were filed. This information will no longer be kept on file.

The BOI report was a short-lived mandatory report for all US small businesses. It required business owners to submit copies of their driver’s licenses along with information about their company.

The BOI was officially abolished in March 2025 by the United States Treasury Department and is now required only for foreign businesses registered in the United States.

Since the BOI report was abolished, the 32 million small businesses around the country who filed their BOI have been understandably concerned about what the government would do with their sensitive information contained in the BOI filing.

The US Department of Treasury announced on August 11th that they will delete all information that had been filed by US small businesses.

One more friendly reminder about BOI scams: You may receive “reminder” emails about filing the BOI. Please know that these emails are misleading. They are solicitations from private companies that want to charge you for filing a BOI report on your behalf, even though you do not need to file one!

NEW PORTAL REQUIRED FOR FILING AND PAYING STATE REEMPLOYMENT TAXES

At the end of each quarter, Florida businesses must report the wages paid to their employees during the past three months and pay the state reemployment tax due on those wages. These quarterly wage statements are called RT-6s, and this tax used to be called the “unemployment tax.”

Most businesses are required to file this information and pay the taxes online. The Florida Department of Revenue has updated the website for businesses to report and remit their quarterly state reemployment taxes.

Starting with the wage reports and taxes for the third quarter of 2026 that are due October 31st,  businesses must use this new electronic portal located at floridarevenue.com/taxes/filepay.

Select the Reemployment Tax – Employers, Agents, and Employee Leasing link to log into the new system. Sales and Use Tax under the eFile and Pay Taxes and Fees section. The new system should automatically load your user profile information.
